And the award for Owner Of The Job I Would Want To Do The Least Right Now belongs to the newly-elected Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. It would be cool to be leader of a country and all but Greece at the moment is less a country and more one giant clusterfuck.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the Greeks and my family has strong ties to Greece, with most having grown up or lived there at some point, but when your National debt of €300 billion is bigger than your country’s economy, then you’re doing something wrong.
After years of bloated public wages and tax evasion and basically just living beyond its means like a bored shopaholic housewife, the GFC hit Greece like an overdue credit card bill. The rest is kind of a long story, but now after seven weeks of political uncertainty there’s a new Prime Minister.
And the difficult part’s still to come.
Mr Samaras will have to steer Greece out of its economic death spiral while at the same time holding together an uneasy coalition government. Yep, nope, do not envy him at all.
